L-C Said: Philips VOIP080 Best Skype Phone - Can get it cheaper though ( Jun. 22nd 2010 )
This phone is AMAZING!!! I first got into Skype using my built-in laptop camera and microphone...but didn't like the 'publicity' of using it like that...so I got this box, called a ZOOM box...and while it has some neat features...it is a RESOURCE HOG! You have to nearly have a CAD station to run that thing properly!
So...I suffered...then, I decided hey, WM had the Philips on sale and I might as well try it...well, guess what? This thing is nearly as clear as a landline, without the cost! LOVE IT! By the way...Wallie-World has this phone marked down to $10.00 in electronics!!! I HIGHLY recommend a visit there, first! I bought three and gave two away to friends...they are wonderful!
Ryan Sandberg Said: Horrible ( Feb. 12th 2010 )
I bought this phone for my business, and it worked great for about a week... Then Skype updated and the phone didn't. Ever since then, we have had about 70% of our calls not have audio (in or out, depending on what it wants.) It no longer rings when a call comes through, and it's constantly popping up errors on the screen. Might be good for some people, but not for people with more than light use. We paid $20 for it at Walmart, and I guess you get what you pay for...
yO Said: I WAS gonna give this phone a 3 because........... ( Nov. 15th 2009 )
.....finding the update driver that complies with my skype 4.xxx,,almost DROVE me crazy..Philips,,PLEASE make finding drivers easier(PLEASE)..
I gave this a 5 star rating because after finding the updated driver,,it was WELL worth searching the Philips Files for..lol
This driver for this phone is "So good its unreal"..Echo>>>no no..Very Clear transmition(people finally understand what I'm saying) and reception(I hear you too)...
I was gonna get a nice priced headset but still the mics on headsets are iffy(making me sound muddy, muffeled, and too bassy..
Drivers and soundcards are key when it comes to these types of devices(VoIP)
Philips made a top notch key "DRIVER" that truly drives this phone...
Had to give it a 5...
Make sure you have Highspeed Broadband or DSL and a skype acct..
As of 11/15/09 Whats with the price HIKE?? $100+?? Got mine for $29...
MUST BE THA TOP NOTCH land line quality "DRIVER" LOL
J. DiGiovanni Said: Problems in Vista. Unusable on Mac OS X 10.5.x ( Jul. 14th 2009 )
Doesn't work properly with new versions of Skype in Windows Vista. It required me to use the Skype ver.3 that comes on the CD-Rom. When I upgraded to version 4.1 the sound turned garbled and the buttons stopped function properly. The ring tones are so shrill that my ears nearly bled. The handset has no volume control, you must open the Phillips Voip0801 driver to adjust volume.
Other than that...
If Phillips would provide better driver support it could be a 4*. I give it a 2* only because I got mine for $20 with shipping. If I had paid full price I would have rated 0 and returned it.
Jeffrey R. Beals Said: A Great Phone For Skype Users ( Jan. 14th 2009 )
As a fairly regular SKYPE user, I was searching for a suitable U.S.B. phone to use on my Mac G-4 laptop.
This unit, which comes with instructions written clearly, and NOT FOR ENGINEERS ONLY, was easy to set up, and use in a matter of a couple of minutes. The software, which installed rapidly, had no glitches, and guided me through the instructions with no problems.
As far as use, it works extremely well, with a nicely lit keyboard, and easy to read keys, both numeric, and those for the various functions.
Audio quality is very good, and I actually prefer using this phone, over the often-used USB Headset, with microphone, which obviously is somewhat limiting.
It is a well engineered and well made item, that should serve you well, for a very reasonable price.
