Answer #1:

Macbook pro with retina display, if you have not seen retina then trust me you will be amazed! Plus the macbook is great for travelling and the materials that it is made out of will last you a long time.

I am very satisfied with the new macbook pro.

With the new MacBook Pro just like all Airs you can no longer upgrade the RAM! So nothing but the OS is upgradeable now! So if want the max RAM you have to get it right off the top! That means you have to pay though the nose to get it! Can't upgrade for cheap any more!

Guess I'm lucky I have a 2009 iMac and was able to upgrade the RAM from 4GB to 16GB for $85! Prob the next iMac won't be able to do that! They may force you to pay through the nose for it too!

I don't think the Macbook Pro with retina display is the best option for you. It's only a good option if you have the money to upgrade the storage, which your $2400 budget isn't enough for.

I'd suggest the normal 15 inch Pro. Here are the specs:

15-inch: $2,299
2.6GHz quad-core Intel Core i7
Turbo Boost up to 3.6GHz
8GB 1600MHz memory
1TB 5400-rpm hard drive
Intel HD Graphics 4000
NVIDIA GeForce GT 650M with 1GB of GDDR5 memory
Built-in battery (7 hours)

It's really nice to only have one computer. The nice big screen size is good for whatever you need. But it's only .95 inches thin and 5.6 pounds, so it's still very easy to carry with you when you need it.

If you'd like to have an "ultraportable" device, I'd suggest buying an iMac and an iPad. I'd suggest the 21.5 inch because you get more for your money. With the 27 inch, you're paying mostly for screen size, and would have to sacrifice hard drive space, memory, and processor speed. Here's are the specs of the iMac:

21.5-inch: $1,749
2.7GHz Quad-Core Intel Core i5
1920 x 1080 resolution
8GB (two 4GB) memory
2TB hard drive
AMD Radeon HD 6770M with 512MB

and a 32 GB Wifi iPad $599 -- ideal for traveling. With iCloud it's easy to keep both devices in sync.

Hope this helps!
